First Grade News and Notes

*Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia! Welcome back!  I hope you had a beautiful Easter break.

*April is National Poetry Month.  We will be reading at least one poem per day throughout the month of April in first grade!  If you have a favorite poem you would like to share with the class, be sure to bring it in sometime during this month.

Look What We're Learning About

Phonics: spelling with the doubling rule (hopping, running etc...), ghost letter digraphs kn, gn, & wr, review of the dropping rule (baking, taped etc...), syllable division v/cv, sight words often, enough, rough, tough

Math: Adding 9 facts, identifying 1/2, 1/3, and 1/6, using comparison symbols (<, >, =), dividing a set of objects by sharing, identifying cup, quart, gallon & liter

English: special nouns, pronouns (he, she, it, they), naming yourself last (Suzy and I), and synonyms

Science: Natural Resources

Religion: The Resurrection

Reading: Poetry
