Dear Parents,
I apologize for not posting this blog until Saturday afternoon. I ran into some computer problems Friday evening and was unable to post then.
As you know the 6th graders have been busy working on their science project. I am looking forward to working on the paper writing portion of the project with them on Monday! In writing students also turned in an outline for a paper that we will be working on about the gift of the priesthood. This is part of an all school writing assignment. I will be sure to give them in class time to work on these papers, so the work load won’t become too much for them. On Thursday they worked on their outlines, and determined what topics they still needed resources for. I asked them to mark those topics and I would look for books and online resources that would be helpful.
In history students have started chapter 8 about Europe during the middle ages. Students read about The Song of Roland, and some of the main characters. Then they each chose a character and told the story of the battle from that person’s perspective around a “campfire” I had constructed. These kids are great actors!
In religion students took the test about the virtues. Some questions they were asked were to draw a spectrum of five different virtues and include the two extremes of each, the three criteria for judging the morality of an act, define some of the virtues, give examples of true optimism and false optimism, explain the relationship between rights and responsibilities, and more.
In 5th grade history students have learned how to explain the errors of Sola Fide and Sola Scriptura, and have written two paragraphs on this topic. In addition they have watched parts of the movie A Man for All Seasons.
Thank you for the gift of teaching your child! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
In Christ,
Ms. Burrill
