Dear Parents,

The concert for the priests definitely brought tears to my eyes. The beautiful voices of the children gave me a deeper conviction of the gift of the priesthood. It also reminded me that when ever I see a priest I should thank him for surrendering his life to the will of God. Wow!
This week in history students learned about China and Japan. They learned about the nine different dynasties in China. They did this by making a timeline that is attached to a hanger. This helped the kids learn the material and was a nice decoration in the classroom.
Students are now turning in their final drafts for the grammar magazine. The individual pages I have seen have been very impressive. I can tell a lot of thought and time has gone into this project. Also in language arts we are continuing to read The Hobbit.   We have been making the path Bilbo and company have been taking on the map, learning new vocabulary words, learning about character development and much more. On Thursday they will be taking a quiz on their vocabulary words. Also on Monday they should have their riddle finished.
In religion we have been learning about the 4th and 5th commandment. We have been doing this by taking a closer look at natural law and just war theory. Excellent discussions have taken place and the kids can articulate these teachings well. Students also need to spend time memorizing prayers and the teachings of the Church.
In 5th grade history students have been learning about the presidents of the United States of America, states and capitals, and postal abbreviations. Yesterday many of them sang to me the song they have learned to memorize the order of the presidents. In addition each student is in a group who are focused on a particular region of the United States of America. Each group has brought in a variety of objects that represent their region. They also wrote on note cards to explain why each item is in their bucket.

I am in awe of the gift it is to teach your child.

Sincerely In Christ,

Miss Burrill
