Dear Parents,

Thank you for sending your 6th grader to Holy Family Academy! Daily I am amazed at what a gift it is to be around so many people who are in love with the Lord, and want to bring others into this great adventure with Him! It was such a blessing to be able to share with the class the gift of my dear friend entering a convent next week to discern her call to be the bride of Christ. She gave me a card and treats for the kids in thanksgiving for the card they made her. The goldfish crackers were to remind us that the Lord calls us to “Put out into the deep”. The M and M’s were for our Mother Mary and the orange napkins were to remind us of the flames in the heart of Christ that burn in love for us. If you would like to mail her any of your prayer intentions let me know and I can e-mail you her address.

In grammar this week students are finishing up their magazine project. They also took a quiz on 40 vocabulary words from The Hobbit. Students learned about the difference in narrating techniques used in the text compared to a play. Then they each participated in a short skit from their favorite part of the book. In addition, today students learned about the Catholic vision that permeates Tolkien’s works and how it was similar and contrasting from C.S Lewis’s works.
In religion students learned about the martyrs. It is often not realized that the twentieth century was the time of most of the Christian martyrs. They are an incredible witness to us and are truly the seedbed of the Church. A few of the many martyrs we have discussed are Blessed Miguel Pro, Saint Maximilian Kolbe, St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, the martyrs in Albania and more. I am looking forward to reading their responses from the reading.
In history students wrapped up the unit about Japan and will be taking a quiz on Wednesday. In 5th grade history students have learned the order of all the presidents of the United States of America, the postal abbreviations, and the location of all the states and capitals.

I am so thankful to be their teacher! I will pray that our Mother Mary wraps your family in her mantle and holds you close to her Immaculate Heart.

Sincerely In Christ,

Miss Burrill
