6th Grade Scientists

Dear Parents,
I am very pleased with the effort the 6th graders are showing! We have been very busy with our science projects. The kids have met with me about their papers and display board. They even had a chance to practice public speaking prior to their science presentations, which will take place on the 28th. All of their papers should be turned in by Tuesday with the corrections made. When they do the presentations on Wednesday all components of their project should be completed. This has been an exciting project for me to work on with them.
In grammar students have continued to work on their magazine project. So far we have worked on 7 pages. By the end of the project they will have a nice, neat magazine that has binding, and all the concepts from chapter 9 grammar covered. We are continuing to read the novel The Hobbit. This week we have focused on point of view, interpreting the map, hyperbole, puns, simile and more.
Today in history students made diagrams of the universe according to Ptolemy and Copernicus. Next week we will learn more about the Copernicus Revolution that occurred during the Renaissance.
In religion students are continuing to recite prayers and teachings of the Church. Today many students made exceptional progress with their paper about the gift of the priesthood. They have had access to over 20 great books that have guided their research. I am excited to read their papers!
In 5th grade history we have started to learn about the major lakes and rivers around the world. Ask you child this weekend what helps them remember the order of the names of the Great Lakes. Students have also been giving in class presentations about a specific lake from around the world.
Thank you so much for the gift of teaching your child.

Sincerely In Christ,

Ms. Burrill
