6th grade update

Dear Parents,

I hope you get to spend tonight outside in this beautiful weather! It has been such a joy teaching your children this week.
In religion students learned about subsidiarity, solidarity and the relationship between dignity and rights. They also were given a hand out with all the prayers and teachings of the Church they should know by the end of quarter 4. I have all these listed, in Power School. Please don’t be alarmed if your 6th grader doesn’t have all their scores entered. I told them they could recite all of them to me in the order of their choosing, which is why I had to put all the grade categories in the computer.   They are also busy working on their paper about priests. Some students had the opportunity to interview one of our regularly visiting seminarians today.
In grammar they have continued to work on their magazine project. I am quite impressed by their creativity and mastery of the grammar concepts. In addition, students have been busy working on their science paper. Due to the amount of work this was for them, I did not require that they take the spelling test this week.
In reading students have started The Hobbit by Tolkien. It has been a fun adventure to embark on with them!
In history we have been learning about the Middle Ages. Students learned about the trivium, quadrivium, St. Thomas Aquinas, disputations, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Dominic and the Black Death. They even took part in a disputation. In 5th grade history students are beginning to work with maps and learn the major rivers and lakes of each continent.

Thank you for the incredible opportunity to teach your 5th or 6th grader!

Sincerely In Christ,

Ms. Burrill
