April 30th

Dear Parents,

This week students shared their science projects with the rest of the class.  It was evident that alot of learning had taken place!  There is a wonderful variety of topics, so you won't want to miss the Academic Fair next week!  This weekend I will be reading their final draft of the science paper.

I will also be reading the first draft of their papers of the gift of the priesthood.  It has been a busy few weeks of writing, and I am looking forward to seeing the fruits of their labor.  Student also have been reciting prayers and teachings of the Church this week.  I told the kids they should have at least 3 prepared to recite next week.

In grammar students have finished learning about all of the concepts for their magazine.  Next week they will be working on creating their final drafts, so we can bind their finished work soon!

We are still reading The Hobbit.  Students have been following the route of Bilbo Baggins on a map.  We also have been discussing point of view, internal and external conflict and the rising action in the story.

In history student finished up learning about the Renaissance.  We spent time learning about Ptolemy and the "Copernicus Revolution."  Students analyzed the difference between the models of the universe created by both men and the model we use today. We also learned about Shakespeare and his gift with the pen through his use of hyperbole, pun, simile, oxymorons, and personification.

In 5th grade history students took a quiz about lakes and rivers around the world.  We also started learning postal abbreviations for the Nifty Fifty test.  Ask you 5th grader some of the helpful tips to remember many of them.

I have graded many assignments tonight and they will be entered into the computer soon.

Have a wonderful weekend!  Please keep me in your prayers.  Thank you for the gift of being your son or daughter's teacher!

Sincerely In Christ,

Ms. Burrill
