Happy Feast Day of St. Joseph!
Dear Parents,
Once again I am amazed that it is the end of the quarter. There are still a few grades left to be added into the computer. I plan to have this completed by early next week.
In grammar students took a pre-test on chapter 7 so we could see where they are at. We will be continuing with that chapter when we return and also starting a project revolving around the concept of punctuation. They will be designing a magazine in which each page features the grammar concept taught from a specific lesson. For example a student may choose to design a magazine about food. For the lesson that focuses on abbreviations they may choose to feature a recipe on that page. Once they show mastery of the concept they can create the page.
In language arts we are also continuing to read the novel Misty of Chincoteague. We have been working on character development, vocabulary, comprehension and more. In addition we have also started writing our paper for the Academic Fair. Students showed me their outlines. The paper for this project should be 3-5 pages in length.
In religion we have been focusing on Catholic social teaching. The concepts we have covered are subsidiarity, a person must always be an end not a means, and that mans’ law must match up with Divine law. The paragraphs they were asked to read are 401-414 and to memorize paragraph 403 about subsidiarity.
In 5th grade history students took a quiz about Luther and King Henry the 8th.
All of the 5th and 6th graders participated in the Geography Bee for their class. The 5th grade winners were announced in class and the 6th grade winners were sent an e-mail.
Thank you for the gift of teaching your child!
Sincerely In Christ,
Ms. Burrill
