Holy Week
Parents,
St. John Vianney tells us that, “The priesthood is the love of the heart of Jesus.” I hope and pray that this will be a very special Holy Thursday for you and your family.
Today students received their report cards and science project boards. I have asked them not to start working on the board, but instead only on their paper.
In grammar students have started their magazine project. After I teach the lesson about the concept and they have shown mastery of it, they turn in a 1st draft of the page that reflects the lesson. After I edit their work then they create the final draft, which they have the option to do on the computer if they so desire.
We have finished reading the book Misty of Chincoteague and will start The Hobbit when they return. This is a book that I believe many of the 6th graders will really enjoy!
In religion we learned more about the Triduum and continued to work on their papers about the priesthood. We have created folders to store their note cards with a color code system to stay super organized. I have provided them with many resources, and will continue to find more for them.
In 6th history students took the quiz about North America. In 5th grade history we have been learning about Queen Elizabeth. Today we focused on the beliefs of Puritans and Catholics. We talked about how all things true, good and beautiful should direct us toward God. We also reviewed Aristotle’s wisdom that all knowledge comes to us through the senses. Thus the gifts such as the music of Mozart, beautiful sunsets, and delicious truffles should help us to understand in a deeper way the goodness of God. This got us into a great discussion about the wisdom of Holy Mother Church having us both fast and feast because both are important. Fasting helps us focus completely on the source of all things true, good and beautiful-God! Feasting then helps us to understand his goodness through his creation.
I will keep all the families of Holy Family in my prayers over break. I will ask Mother Mary to wrap you in her mantle and keep you close to the heart of her son. Thank you for the gift of teaching your 5th or 6th grader!
Sincerely In Christ,
Ms. Burrill
