Dear Parents,

Today was such a beautiful day for track and field.  Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make the day a success!

This week student turned in their grammar pages to have bound for their magazine.  We also are close to finishing The Hobbit.  Students did an incredible job acting out their favorite scenes from the novel.  In addition we have been spending quite a bit of time discussing Tolkien’s Catholic vision that permeates his works.

In 5th grade history we are learning about explorers such as Christopher Columbus.  Also students will have a chance to retake one of their geography tests to qualify for Nifty 50.

In religion students have been learning about 20th century martyrs.  This week we have focused on St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross and St. Maximilian Kolbe.  Many of the students commented how they were impressed with St. Maximilian Kolbe’s strong devotion to Our Lady.

On Tuesday the students will have a spelling test with words that originated from Greek, Italian, Spanish and French.  In addition they will have a non graded assessment to see how many countries they can find on a map that we have studied this year.

I will be correcting homework tomorrow and Monday and have everything in the grade book by then.

I can’t believe that next week is our last week of school.  I am going to miss these kids so very much!    Thank you for the opportunity to teach your son or daughter.

Sincerely In Christ,

Miss Burrill
