Eighth Grade Acrylic’s

Eighth graders at Holy Family are trying out acrylic paint for the first time. So far they are doing very well. Acrylics are water based just like watercolors. However, acrylics look and feel a bit more like oil paints.

Acrylics are a rather new form of paint. Oil paints were developed during the renaissance. Their invention played a large role in the success of new techniques such as soft shading or “sfumato”. In the medieval ages, paint was made by mixing egg yoke and pigments. Not only did these paints smell bad, but they were also very hard to work with. We have come a long way!
