First Communion Questions

1.  Is the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist one of the 7 Sacraments of the Catholic Church?

      Yes

2.  Who do you receive when receiving the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist?

      I receive JESUS - Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity

3.  When was the first Mass?

      The first Mass was Holy Thursday at the Last Supper.

4.  When does Jesus become present in the Holy Eucharist?

    Jesus becomes present during the Consecration when the priest says "This is My Body" and "This is My Blood"

5.  Do you see Jesus in the Holy Eucharist?

     No, I do not see Jesus in the Holy Eucharist because He is hidden under the appearances of bread and wine.

6.  What does the word "transubstantiation" mean?

     "Transubstantiation" is the miracle of the changing of the bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Jesus by a Catholic priest

7.  What two Sacraments did Jesus give us at the Last Supper?

     Jesus gave us the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist, and the Sacrament of Holy Orders

8.  Why is a Catholic priest able to change the bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Jesus?

     A Catholic priest was given the power to change the bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Jesus through the Sacrament of Holy Orders when the bishop ordained him a priest.

9.  What does the word "Eucharist" mean?

     "Eucharist" means thanksgiving

10.  What does the word "Host" mean?

       "Host" means Victim

11.  What does the word "Amen" mean?

      "Amen" means "Yes, I believe"

12.  What are the conditions for receiving Holy Communion?

      1.  Have my soul free from mortal (serious) sin.

      2.  Not eat or drink anything for one hour before receiving Holy Communion (except water or medicine)

13.  How should you prepare for Holy Communion?

      1.  I think of Jesus as I get ready to go to Church

      2.  I pray by joining my prayers with all the people at Mass

      3.  As the time to receive Jesus in Eucharist comes closer I think, "O Jesus, I believe in You.  O Jesus I love You with all my heart.  Come to me dear Jesus, I want so much to receive You."  I ask Mother Mary to prepare my heart to receive Jesus.

14.  How should you receive Holy Communion?

      When it is almost my turn to receive Jesus, I can make a sign of reverence to Him by bowing.  When it is my turn, I lift my head and look at the Host.  The Priest or Eucharistic Minister will say, "Body of Christ," and then I say "Amen."  I receive the Host and eat it.

15.  What should you do after receiving Holy Communion?

      1.  I go back to my place and kneel down.  I thank Jesus for having come to me.  I tell Him I love Him.

      2.  I ask Him to help and bless me.

      3.  I ask Him to help my family and friends.

      4.  I can say a prayer to Mother Mary
