A busy week in store - the kids are brimming with excitement for "Track and Field" on Friday.  The teachers are still trying to keep their attention and impart some learning before summer starts.  We also have an upcoming field trip on Tuesday to the Raptor Center and Como Zoo.  We will need a limited few chaperones, so please contact me if interested.

As per usual the third grade has finished our math book a couple weeks early.  We will have our final test from the textbook on Tuesday, after that we will be doing supplemental work and review.  We've also been doing "lunch bunch' which was originally to help students who needed a little more work on their math facts.  Due to popularity we've expanded it a bit and have opened it even to some of our students who go up to 4th grade math.  We're doing our "cubes" through 12, and even times a number by itself 4 times, 1 - 1, 2 - 64, 3- 81, 4 - 256, 5 - 625 ..

3rd Grade Update: 5/10 - 5/14

For this week's writing assignment we will be compiling letters to the "Rajan" family.  The Rajans are the family that HFA sponsors in India.  Mrs. Sabol has spoken with the 3rd graders about the plight of the Rajans and how they desperately need our prayers and support.  We can't send 28 individuals letters due to the complications of translating, so we'll combine aspects of several of the students letters to create a "shared letter'.

We will start off the week with our flower procession and Mary Crowning at mass.   This week's writing assignment is about writing a description.  We will be focusing on enhancing our writing through the use of writing about our senses.  Let's see if we can actually get the reader to feel part of the story.

Welcome back!  I wish that I could say that we're returning to our "routine", but not quite yet.  This week we're doing our "Standardized Testing".  At HFA we introduce the students in 3rd grade to the concept of "standardized testing".  We don't just stick the test in front of them and say, "you may begin."   This is their introduction - there are two forms of test: an aptitude test - the OLSAT, Otis-Lennon School Ability Test; and the Stanford Achievement Test, measuring performance.  The two test ar

3rd Grade Update: 3/29 - 4/1

Holy Week is upon us!  After all the penance and waiting  - a glorious Easter will soon be here.  This week begins the 4th quarter; it is also test prep for standardized testing.  We will be taking practice test to acclimate the students to the process.   On Wednesday after church we will be presenting the poem - "The Rogue Vine" by Stephen Duggan.  The students have worked diligently and would be happy to have as many parents attend as possible.

On the agenda for next week:

3rd Grade Update: 3/15 - 3/19

For our writing assignment this week, we will be doing "A Whole Class Book Report" on Farmer Boy.  Since we present our writing assignments each week to the class, 28 reports on the same book can get a little repetitive.  This week each student will be assigned a particular chapter, and we will present it to the class in numerical succession.

On the agenda for next week:

3rd Grade Update: 3/8 - 3/12

We will be continuing with our Lenten themed writing assignments - this week the topic is "If someone asked you; who is 'Jesus'?  What would be your answer?".   As Catholics we need not only to be able to recite our prayers and profess our faith, but we also need an understanding of it too.  In order to explain to someone, "Who is Jesus?" we express our knowledge and "understanding" of our faith.
