Catholic Schools Week Wrap Up

Once again, Catholic Schools Week was a huge success for both students and teachers!  On Monday, the teachers were "mixed up" for one period ; students were treated to surprise lessons and different teaching styles that made the event fun for all.  On Tuesday, Miss Nichols (8th grader and 2009 Marathon winner) served the school as Principal for the Day.  She treated the entire school to donuts, Virtue Family Bingo, and an Out of Uniform Day where students dressed in different grade level themed outfits ranging from pajamas to musicians. Wednesday was Spirit Wear Day and our annual trip to the Roller Garden.  The school was filled with students and staff dressed in red and black and everyone had a great time roller skating.  Congratulations to Thursday's Spelling Bee winners!! Third grader Clare K. won the grades 1 - 3 division and seventh grader Matthew K. won the grades 4 - 8 division.  The week concluded on Friday with Coffee and Donuts for the parents and the Eighth Grade Oratory Presentation, "Praying the Psalms."  Silly socks and ties accessorized student's uniforms and staff's apparel. Special thanks goes to Mrs. Christopherson, Mrs. Wooden, Mrs. Whims, and the entire PTO for working so hard to make the week such a joy for everyone involved.

Box Tops and Kemps Lids Extremely Successful - Thank You PTO and Elizabeth Hessian!

Our Holy Family Academy PTO works so hard to do so much for our school!  Just one of the many things that they do is to raise funds through Clip and Save Programs such as Box Tops for Education and Kemps Lids.  Under the direction of our Clip and Save Coordinator, Elizabeth Hessian, the PTO has raised thousands of dollars.  We are pleased to let you know that one of the recipients of all of your clip and save efforts is our school library.  At the close of Catholic School's Week this week, the PTO presented our librarian, Mrs. Duggan, a check for $1,500 to use for new library books and supplies; needless to say, Mrs. Duggan was delighted.  If you have ever wondered if all of the effort you put into saving, clipping and delivering all of those lids and labels does any good, this is proof, IT DOES!  Thank you to everyone who has diligently been collecting and clipping Box Tops for Education and Kemps Milk Caps!  Keep it up!

Blankets for the Homeless All-School Service Project Extended One Week!

The service project that we began last week collecting blankets for the homeless has been extended one week.  More blankets are needed and yes, EVERYONE'S HELP IS NEEDED!!!  Mr. Allan Law, a retired school teacher, ministers to the Twin Cities homeless by handing out over 500 peanut butter sandwiches and as many blankets as possible every night on the streets of Mpls.  We are helping him by collecting clean, old, new, large, and small blankets.  Our goal is to collect 500 blankets so search your closets, attics, and storage rooms.  Blankets can be brought to school and placed at the feet of Mary all week long.  For information about Mr. Law, see the Star Tribune article and video by clicking here: http://www.startribune.com/video/69371657.html    Top

Adorers Needed

There are a number of hours in the Adoration Chapel during the school day that currently do not have a regular adorer.  If you have been thinking about making a regular Holy Hour, this is a great opportunity.  The hourly coordinators for the Chapel are able to find subs if there are days you need to stay home with sick kids, or have other conflicts. At present there are six hours without a committed adorer in our Adoration Chapel.  We are appealing to all moms, dads, and families to consider joining the ranks of committed adorers.  The need is especially great now as some of our elderly are no longer able to drive to Church for their hour and a few committed adorers have moved away.  Available times are: Mon. both 10 and 11 am, Tues. 4 pm, Thurs. 1 pm and 4 pm and Fri at 11 pm.  Some people “share” an hour and are scheduled every other week.  We are willing to help you find a time that meets your needs.  We know that Jesus will richly bless you as He cannot be outdone in generosity.  Call Jim or Mary Glover at 763-533-0423 if you are interested.  Top

Our 2009-2010 Parent Student Handbook can now be found in its entirety on our web page under Parent Resources.  Please take some time to familiarize yourself with how to access it.  It is especially helpful when wondering about uniform, homework, absentee, and discipline policies.  Top
